Vegetables and animals oils refining

To follow the story of the company Ch. Daudruy Van Cauwenberghe & Fils, there are 3 important dates of relevance.

First of all in 1829 the creation of the Jules Van Cauwenberghe-Lemaire naval fleet. The fleet, deeply involved in Dunkirk affairs
of that period, were specialized in big Icelandic cod fishing, the campaigns of which would last upto 6 months - April to September.
The last schooners were disarmed in the early 1920's, after the 1st World War.

In 1927 Mr Charles Daudruy, spouse of Helene Van Cauwenberghe and sole beneficiary of Jules Van Cauwenberghe's estate, founded the company Ch. Daudruy Van Cauwenberghe & Fils on the site of the Van Cauwenberghe naval fleet and specialized in the importation of cod liver oil. Indeed, in the context of big Icelandic fishing, fishing fleets would sell their fish and their by-products such as cod liver oil.

In 1965 Charles Daudruy, grandson of the founder of the company, built a refinery on the site at Petite Synthe. Initially intended for modifying tallows for industrial use and animal feed, soon expanded to include other fats of animal origin and vegetable oils that now form the main part of today's refining operation.
